Background Info

Mike suggested I start a blog so that everyone can know what I'm doing to prepare for General Assembly. So I did!

It all started when Mike nominated me to become a YAD (youth advisory delegate) at the 2008 Presbyterian General Assembly. The General Assembly is the national gathering of Presbyterians that is held biannually. Basically a bunch of Presbyterians get together and discuss whats going on in the church. A YAD is a person between the ages of 17 and 22 that is elected by the presbytery. Each presbytery gets to elect one YAD to represent the youth in that area. Each presbytery also elects minister and elder commissioners to represent them.

I was elected in December, 2007. In April I started getting information about my role and responsibilities, along with letters trying to persuade me to vote a certain way. I like getting so much mail, and I'll be sad when GA is over and I go back to getting something once a month.

The Assembly is in San Jose California this year. My mom and Mike decided to come with me to see what GA is like. I leave on June 19 and get back on June 28. It should be pretty exciting!

Thanks, Jenna. I look forward to reading your posts. I know you will be a great YAD for Whitewater Valley - be sure you take time for fun!
